Due to their diversity in the composition, lattice structures and physical/chemical properties, various oxidation states (2+, 3+, 4+, 5+), (VxOy) nanomaterials have attached much attention for developing new rechargeable batteries, including lithium-ion batteries (LIBs), sodium-ion (NIBs), zinc-ion (ZIBs), magnesium-ion (MIBs) as well energy storage concepts such light-rechargeable batteries. However, further improve electrochemical performance of VxOy-based it is crucial understand mechanisms taking place these materials LIBs, NIBs, ZIBs, MIBs. This review covers a systematical discussion situ operando analysis methods carried out on V2O5, VO2, LixVyOz, NaxVyOz, ZnxVyOz, MgxVyOz MIBs fundamental insights they provided
